Brief History of MVH

The Metro Vigan Hospital (MVH) is a tertiary hospital that is conveniently located at the heart of Metro Vigan– in the municipality of Bantay, province of Ilocos Sur. It is easily accessible to public transportation and is only two hundred meters away from the Bantay national highway.

It was initiated by a group of physicians in 1997 and in that same year, was registered under the Cooperative Development Authority as Metro Vigan Cooperative Hospital.

Since then, MVH has become one of Ilocos Sur’s premiere hospitals, committed to the pursuit of rendering quality and safe medical care to its patient clientele. A Multidisciplinary Team approach in dealing with its patient clientele has been adopted by Metro Vigan Hospital to provide a complete and holistic specialized care.

It is equipped with modern diagnostic equipment's and therapeutic modalities needed to surmount the onslaught and the debilitating effects of various medical and surgical illnesses that have beset mankind since the early ages. It has a full complement of well-trained and highly qualified medical specialists.

At present, MVH is continually upgrading its equipment, facilities and systems to meet the growing needs of the community. To realize this, MVH is investing in its human capital resources.

Aside from providing medical services, the Metro Vigan Hospital also provides the training ground of future Nurses, Pharmacists, Physical therapists, and other allied Health services.

Metro Vigan Hospital is a 61-bed, level 2 hospital with major clinical departments namely: Surgery, Medicine, Pediatrics, and Obstetrics and Gynecology, Anesthesia, and ancillary services namely: Radiology, Clinical and Anatomic Pathology, Dental Medicine, Rehabilitation Medicine, Pharmacy, and Dietary.

SURGERY:

            The Surgery Department is manned by highly competent and qualified surgical   teams. It has 3 operation suites that are equipped with modern facilities and instruments. It can handle surgical cases ranging from general surgery, urology, orthopedics, neurosurgery, Colo-rectal surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery.

MEDICINE:

The Medical Department has an array of highly skilled and experienced medical as well as paramedical staff. Subspecialists in cardiology, pulmonology, endocrinology, diabetology, oncology and nephrology also man the hospital for specialized needs of clients. The Intensive Care Unit of Metro Vigan Cooperative Hospital is equipped with modern computerized and centralized cardiac monitoring machines and latest models of mechanical ventilators. The Cardiology unit has a Holter Monitoring unit and a cardiac stress testing laboratory.

PEDIATRICS:

            The Department of Pediatrics is manned by experienced active and visiting Medical and Paramedical Staff. Its Neonatal Intensive Care/Nursery unit can comfortably handle up to 10 neonates and infants and is provided with new models of incubators and resuscitator to assure complete pediatric care to its young patients.

OBSTETRICS AND GYNECOLOGY:

            The Department has a fetal monitor and coordinates closely with the Radiology Department of the hospital. It takes advantage of the high resolution capabilities of the Ultrasound equipment thus enhancing the Obstetrician’s capabilities to manage high risk pregnancies. It offers Gynecologic Oncology services by trained Gyne Onco physician.

RADIOLOGY

            Under its wing, the department manages the ultrasound, Computed Tomography Scan, Mammography machine and X-ray machine in carrying out its role in providing advance diagnostic capabilities of the hospital and its Medical Staff.

LABORATORY

            The Department of Laboratory has the clinical branch of Pathology under it but   it will be having its anatomic Pathology branch shortly. The Clinical Pathology has            modern computerized Hematologic and Blood Chemistry analyzers as well as blood gas analyzer. There is also a dependable and functioning Microbiology laboratory.

OPHTHALMOLOGY- OTORHINOLARYNGOLOGY

            The Ophthalmology unit of Metro Vigan Hospital is provided with the latest equipment's necessary to render total eye care to its patients. Basic apparatus needed in performing routine procedures such as Cataract, Glaucoma or Orbit surgeries are in use, as well as Operating Microscopes and Phacoemulsification machine. It offers audiometry services, ENT consultations and surgical operations.

ENDOSCOPY

            MVH has an array of endoscopic instruments which are handled by well-trained and skilled medical experts. It routinely performs gastroscopy, bronchoscopy,   esophagoscopy and colonoscopy procedures. Coupled with biopsy procedure, the Physician can be guided as to the appropriate    therapeutic modalities necessary to treat the patient’s illnesses.

ANESTHESIA

            The Department of Anesthesia confidently is equipped with trained anesthesiologists, reliable and modern anesthesia machines and instruments. They administer anesthesia not only on routine surgical procedures but also neurosurgical anesthesia, regional anesthesia, and pain management.
